Should I Invest In An Oil Lamp?

In Case Of Emergency

For those of us who do not have a wood burning fireplace or a gas stove, consider investing in an antique oil lamp. This is a practical, low cost and a useful household item to have. It is lightweight, takes up little room and lasts a lifetime.

Power Outages

In case of an emergency, an antique oil lamp will come in handy. This useful item will light up a room if we lose electricity. After all, an antique oil land is what was used back in the day when there was no grid power around.

Benefits Of Having An Oil Lamp

Oil lamps produce no smoke residue. They will not make a smell in your home as they are odourless. This depends on the fuel that is used. Kerosene has an odour and it is best not to use indoors. Paraffin oil is a better and more practical option. In case of an emergency, if you do not have anything but olive oil, that will do. However, it is more expensive.

Are Oil Lamps Better Than Candles?

Scented Candles vs. An Antique Oil Lamp

Compared to a candle wick, an oil lamp wick will not burn out as fast as a candle wick will. I purchased two oil lamps. They are the blizzard style, which is the largest and brightest of the options they provide.

The lantern burns continuously for up to 26 hours without refuelling. It works well as an emergency light, garden lantern or can be a decoration. The kind I bought wards off mosquitos in the summer time if you put some citronella oil in it. A lever lifts the glass globe to expose the wick for quick lighting, extinguishing, or trimming.

It is best to use lamp oil or kerosene oil. The wick of the lantern will need to be trimmed occasionally. As per the instructions, take your scissors and trim straight across the top. Cut off the charred tip, then the corners. Empty any remaining fuel from the tank before storing your lantern for an extended time.

In addition to the possible fire hazard, the fuel will deteriorate through evaporation. This is a perfect solution for extended emergency lighting.

The cost for one oil lamp is approximately $35.00. I purchased two very nice large ones. A total of $75.00, plus tax.

An oil lamp will last for the rest of our lives. If you plan on building your assets, invest in items that are practical long-term use for your home and family. Some investments do not need to be expensive in order for them to be valuable. When times are tough it is some of the most basic necessities that end up being the greatest value.

What Is The Importance Of Having An Oil Lamp?

Light The Way

During storms or hurricane seasons when the power goes out, many people do not have an oil lamp available. In the 21st century most people are not considering investing in antique oil lamps. However, look at the state of the weather around the world. It is inconsistent and erratic. There is also information on EMPs, which are electromagnetic pulses that can take out our power grid. This means we would have no choice but to go back to basics.

Many who need an oil lamp in times of crisis do not have one. They are not that expensive. You can buy decent oil lamps anywhere between $20.00 up to $200.00 each, depending on your budget.

In the blog the roaring 20’s are back, I share how we might easily fall back into what our ancestors already experienced, an economic fallout. The way many people are living after 2020 has drastically changed. Preparation this time around is key.

One hundred years ago people could not fathom that the economy was collapsing until it did. Almost one hundred years later we are being forewarned of the same fate of our ancestors. Preparation in small steps is key. This is just one small step to take in case of an unforeseen situation that leads to a long-term power outage. This oil lamp will go a long way.
