ToggleWhy Buy a Bluetti Solar Generator?
We spend so much energy working to live better, but when things go haywire all that effort quickly dissipates if we are not prepared. Although it is important to raise our standards, it is also important to protect ourselves and what we have. As rough weather conditions continue, losing power is becoming a more common occurrence. This is why in May 2022 I purchased a portable Bluetti solar generator.
Solar Generator
Why go for a solar generator over a gas generator?
The one big reason to have a solar generator over a gas one is noise. A large majority of us live in a big city, surrounded by other people. The last thing you want when there is a power outage is noise. This will attract attention and that is not the best time for being known in your area.
A gas generator requires a bit more work in the sense that you need to replenish the gas every so often, depending on how long you are using it for. It is also a lot louder. A solar generator uses the sun, a natural element, to charge your generator for power, without paying extra.
Power your essential electrical needs in the city without giving away that you have the means to do so. A gas generator might be a less expensive alternative in terms of upfront cost. However, how much gas can you store safely? If there is no power and the gas stations are closed down there will be no place to purchase fuel. Also, gas goes bad without fuel stabilizers and must be cycled through every 4-6 months.
Bluetti Solar Generator Price
At the time I purchased the solar generator in 2022, a 2400Wh Bluetti EB240 along with two 120W solar panels, the price was $2,199.00 CAD plus tax. Today the price is up at $2,400.00 CAD plus tax. Most websites indicate the one I have is currently not in stock. Any website that is showing it for sale at $2400.00, that is the lowest price.
A solar generator is significantly more expensive than a gas generator. It depends on how much you are willing to invest in this expense.
Nevertheless, this is a good investment because once you buy it, you will have it for it for up to 15 years. A solar generator is a great price even at this time because power outages are happening more frequently. This is a preparation item. If the cost is too high look into gas generators that suit your wallet and will protect your home when the power goes out.
The great thing about a portable Bluetti is that it comes with everything you need including the solar panels and associated cables. It is virtually an ABC process. You plug it in to charge on normal power and leave it charged for when you need it.
When there is a power outage, turn it on and you can plug in normal 120 volt devices. This also comes with USB ports to charge cell phones and laptop computers.
Run an extension cord from it to power your refrigerator during an outage. It is enough to keep the absolute essential things working up until the power comes back on. Should the outage last longer than expected, you can set up the solar panels the portable Bluetti came with and charge it with the sun.
Jackery Solar Generator
A Jackery solar generator is another brand that people get good results with. However, there are some differences. For one, the wattage capacity is not as high and the cost is a little more. Also, the charging capacity is a little less. Although both are useful, a Jackery is more geared towards camping and outdoor living off the grid.
Best Solar Generator
It is not possible to say what the best solar generator is because they each have their pros and cons. The best one is one that is suitable in price range for your budget, has the right amount of capacity to get the job done and has a lot of positive reviews.
It depends which is the best product because in my neck of the woods a long power outage has not happened. For now, they have been fairly short and manageable without using a solar generator.
Do your research when it comes to investing for a solar generator. Based on my needs, current condition and saving enough money, a portable Bluetti solar generator seems to be the best option in my case. There are several different kinds to choose from.
Portable Solar Generator
A portable solar generator is slightly less in price but just as valuable. The downside to portable generators is that they provide a limited time of use and a greater time to generate power to work. So although it does the job, expect to spend more time for it to charge up.
If you are looking for a short term situation, where the power is out for 48-72 hours, perhaps a portable generator will work. However, if it is in more use, the time it takes to charge and power up becomes longer.
Solar Powered Homes
Several homes in my city are solar powered homes. The roofs are covered with solar panels. This is a much more expensive option with an upfront cost. However, the whole house is solar generated and the long term savings does balance out this investment.
These homes are relying on clean energy to power their homes, helping the environment, lowering their costs, building their assets and saving money.
Although a solar powered home is something that people may consider in the future, an emergency portable solar generator for now will do just fine. The prices are slowly increasing. Consider investing in one in case you need it in the future.
Summary
Whether it is an electrical storm, a snow storm, in all seasons there is the potential of getting caught up in a power outage. A solar generator may not replace grid power but it comes in handy to power up the bare essentials to get through a power outage.
