What Are The Best City House Plants?
Throughout the winter we hibernate in our homes. The leaves are gone and snow is on the ground. Outside our home it is looking dreary. Fortunately, our home does not need to look this way. Here are 8 best city house plants for your home to enjoy in the winter.
They are great indoor house plants that every household can take care of easily. Not only are they the best city house plants because they are easy to manage, these green leaves in the home come with many benefits.
Our home needs plants for our well being. Some plants are hard to manage. Others are easy to take care of and very good for our space. Place a plant in a favourable area in your home and watch it flourish. There are currently four plants in my home. One of the plants is actually taken out in the summer and brought inside in the winter. It is not included on the list but will be discussed in a future post. Therefore, technically there are mainly three plants in our home, with more plants on their way.
8 Great Indoor House Plants In The City
1. SNAKE PLANT
It is a long straight green plant with yellowish veins in the middle. A snake plant is low in maintenance. Water this plant once a month and it will still continue to thrive. The snake leaves prefer to be left alone. Therefore put them in an area with low traffic. Leave this plant alone and you are doing your job.
Place the snake plant in an office, especially if your office is in an east or south east facing direction. It benefits the air quality in the room, removes toxins and it helps people who struggle with allergies. I have this plant and it is growing so nicely in its space. As little maintenance as it needs, the snake plant gives a lot just to have it around. It is also a natural air purifier.
2. LUCKY BAMBOO
This is a very nice simple straight stick tall plant. In Chinese culture, it is popular to have one in the home. Based on the number of bamboos you have in your vase, it brings abundance according to those numbers. A lucky bamboo is low in maintenance and does not need direct sunlight.
I have had a lucky bamboo plant for over a decade. It is beautiful to look at, easy to maintain and needs to be watered once every two weeks, on average. If one bamboo goes yellow, remove it from the batch before the other ones get affected. Fortunately, I have only had to remove one bamboo. Meanwhile the rest continue to thrive.
They are not that expensive and you can buy them individually. Lucky bamboo as well as the snack plant take up a little space.
3. MONEY PLANT
Be prepared to have this plant grow very large. I purchased a money plant over a year ago. At the time the size was small. Today it is growing tall and getting wide. It is best to have the money planet in an area that has some light. A money plant can flourish all around your house. It has not been one year since we bought our money plant and it is growing big. My late aunt had this plant hanging throughout the middle part of her house, all along the upper hallway and stairs. With a skylight this plant is able to thrive even more.
A money plant requires more light than most but it does not need to be direct. You need to water them once every other week. It is called a money plant because it is intended to give you money. Put one in your home and see what happens with your wealth. Perhaps money grows on trees after all.
Make sure to give more space to this plant to let it grow as large as possible. It has several benefits including purifying the air in your home, it helps maintain relationships, reduces stress, uplifts the home positively and more.
4. JADE PLANT
Another easy plant to manage is a jade plant. Similar to a money plant, a jade plant brings in good energy in your home, but does not take nearly as much space. The leaves are cute, round and plump. Keep this plant in your house and receive the benefits of its beauty. Having the smooth round edges of the plant in your space, they give a better flow in the room. Sharp plants are not as friendly looking as soft leaves or smooth surfaces.
5. ALOE PLANT
An aloe plant is a useful plant to have in your home. The plants grows wide and reaches up when it is placed in a well sunlit part of your home. Aloe has several benefits for our skin and hair. I will have this plant in my home one day as I do not have one yet. It can grow really large and can be used on yourself for your own personal care. It has both antioxidant and antibacterial properties as well.
In the skin care industry aloe is one of the most sought after ingredients in their products. Meanwhile you can have this in your home for a fraction of their cost. There are several skin care products that promote aloe as an essential ingredient. For example, aloe cream, shampoos and conditioners, face washes, face masks, anti-aging products and more. The plant does not require that much maintenance and does well in the sun.
You need sun for this plant but it is an indoor plant as well as outdoors and it will thrive. Aloe is a multi-billion dollar business and now you have some investment in it. Buy just one large aloe leaf of at the grocery store and pay $3.99. Or have it in your home growing for free and owning the best product for your skin and hair. It is an excellent investment to have an aloe plant.
6. JUNIPER BONSAI PLANT
Not only is a juniper bonsai plant beautiful to look at, it is also wonderful to have in your home. For those suffering from coughs or colds, this plant helps overcome them. Most bonsai plants thrive better outside. However, the juniper bonsai plant can survive inside your home. If you are new to having a plant in your home, having a juniper bonsai plant is a good start. It needs to be pruned. Over pruning can lead to it not surviving, although it can heal itself back to life over time.
Overall, this plant is fairly easy to take care of. I received a bonsai plant kit a few years ago and have not started it. It is available though so perhaps one of these days I can try it out.
7. SPIDER PLANT
We may have no interest in having a spider in our home, similar to a snake, but an indoor plant with the same name we can manage. Spider plants are known to give good luck in eastern tradition. They are large, long and soft in texture, laying over one another. It grows wide and the leaves reach the floor touching it with semi-soft tips.
The spider plant is considered one of the easiest air purifying plants to take care of in your home. As well as, it is the most effective plant for removing carbon monoxide, increases humidity and is therapeutic. This is one of the best city plants to have because it is good for our well being and easy to take care of.
8. RUBBER TREE PLANT
This is another plant I need in my home. You should too because it is known to bring a lot of wealth your way. If you are struggling financially and are spending what you earn on unhealthy or useless things to make you temporarily happy, buy a rubber plant instead. It is low maintenance and another good air purifier for your home. It does not require direct sunlight and can survive in low light. Place it in the right place for your home. According to vastu, (the instructions laid down for building a structure), if this plant is placed correctly in your home it has the capacity to give you a lot of wealth. This year I am going to try it out to see what happens.
The beauty about having a home with some space is that we can have plants in the house that boost our energy. Recently I wrote about things to make you happy. Having plants in your home is another thing that will boost your mood. Plants are self thriving and amazing living gems from the earth. We may not have a beautiful natural picturesque scenery outside our home, but inside we can make one.
Rubber plants grow large. Therefore for those with a small space to have larger city plants, make sure to choose a smaller more upright version when you buy one. There are versions that start off straight and tall. Other styles of these plants tend to flare out. If you are working with a little space with a lot of traffic, choose a smaller version of this plant. Otherwise, a rubber plant is also an excellent option for your home.
Hope this helps you choose the right city plants for yourself in 2022.
