How To Choose A Garden Centre Near Me?

Not All Garden Centres Are The Same

Late Spring is the best time to go shopping for some items for your garden. In case you are looking to buy items such as vegetable plants, flowers or supplies, this is when most things are available and in stock. However, not all garden centres are the same.

Before you go shopping, be on the lookout for the following things to remember in case you do not find everything in one place. In the future you will know which place is the best one to go to. Read on to find out how to choose a garden centre near me.

What Is The Best Garden Centre Near Me?

Before You Go Shopping

When you are ready to go shopping call the garden centre before you visit. Find out if they have what you are looking for. If they do not, you just saved a trip. This is really important living in a big city. There is a lot of traffic now on the weekends and construction during the summer months is happening everywhere.

Driving around store to store to find what you are looking for takes up a lot of time and is not worth it. You want to make the most of your visit at a garden centre to take your time once you are there and get everything you need in one trip.

Once you find a great local garden centre consider it a go to place to gather what you need for the year.

Look Out For A Wide Variety Of Plants

The best kind of garden centre near your home is one that will sell a lot of varieties of vegetable plants to choose from. Not all garden centres have a great selection of items. Some places sell products that are repetitive. Choose one that is not going to sell you a wide selection of tomato plants only.

I went to one garden centre and 75% of the selection sold different kinds of tomato plants. They had Roma tomatoes, big beef tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, etc. Tomatoes are fairly easy to grow shared in my gardening blogs. This is one plant you can surely grow yourself and do not need to buy.

Supplies And Plants

There is a garden centre near me that sells a variety of green plants and flowers but no supplies. They do not sell any gardening gloves, soil, planters to put the flowers or vegetables in, etc. This means having to make another trip to buy supplies and plants that I would like for the garden.

If the garden centre looks small and all you can see are flowers all over the place, it may not have anything else. You are not going to find everything you need at these garden centres because their main focus is on flowers.

Friendly And Knowledgeable Employees

The best garden centre near me is not as close as other ones but this one has employees who take the time to share valuable information. They will talk about the plants, their characteristics, how to care for them, manage them and help them grow.

This is not something you will find at many garden centres. However, when you come across this, the closest garden centre near me is no longer my fist choice. Most of the time you will not need to speak to someone, but if you do and they cannot help, you may want consider going elsewhere.

Garden Centre Near Me

In Summary

All In One Place

The best garden centre near me is fortunately not that far away. It is a non-commercialized business. This place has everything. The most important items it has that I look for are a variety of herbs and vegetable plants. However they have everything else for gardening and enjoying your backyard space as well.

Surprisingly you may come across a little gem that shows up in the parking lot of the place you go grocery shopping. This is where I recently purchased cantaloupe, butternut squash, thyme, basil and cilantro seedlings. Although I am currently growing basil, it is still very small right now and cannot be picked. However, with this new basil plant I can already start using it.

They each cost $4.00, a total of $20.00. I also purchased 6 bags of soil that cost under $2.00/bag.

A garden centre near me that has a good staff, a variety of vegetable plants, gardening supplies and is close to my home is what we need.

Take advantage of the last week of May and the first week of June to go shopping at a garden centre and buy something for your garden in the city. All the plants I purchased were on sale because I bought 5 plants.

At this centre, if you buy more than 4 herb or vegetable plants it cost $4.00/plant. Under 4 plants was $5.00/plant.

As of now, this sums up all my spending for a city garden this year, a $30.00 garden.

By the end of September we will see what came up. Stay tuned.
