Growing Tomatoes

The Most Resilient Of Them All

Growing tomatoes is one easy food we can plant in our house. It does not always work, but when it does, the yield is big.

This is my second time trying to start up tomato plants this year. The first round did not work out. Luckily, this time around seedlings are sprouting. After another try at it again, results are finally showing up.

Given that the only six tomato plants in the ground that survived are growing a little bigger, there is potential for these seedling to give something. The plants look much stronger than they did just one week ago. The most resilient of them all are tomatoes.

Growing Tomatoes At Home

Tomatoes are among the best foods we can grow in our home. They need some light and some water and they will flourish. Even though it did not work out the first time, I am trying again because, as a given, tomatoes deliver, eventually.

A Second Try

These are the last resort seeds planted in the two squares around the pergola. Since time is of the essence there is not much longer to go throughout the summer to give me something big. Nevertheless, the results are starting to look promising already.

Instantly, both of the two squares of the pergola, (where the old and new tomato seedlings are planted) are showing stems coming up. As well as the old seeds on the left square are thriving and growing much faster. The new seedlings that came straight from a fresh tomato are peaking out. However they are coming up at a slower pace.

How To Preserve My Tomato Seeds?

To Protect and Preserve

It is important to note that there is a method to preserve tomatoes seeds.

Heirloom Red Brandywine Tomato Seeds – NDG Botanicals

The way to preserve your tomato seeds is by taking them out of the tomato and putting them in a bowl of water. They are emersed in a jelly like substance. Remove them the way they are and mix them around in the water. Then leave it and wait for a few days for it to get mouldy.

Afterwards, use a sieve and put it under a tap. Let the water run over it while you rub your fingers to clean it off. Once this is complete, spread them out on a paper towel until everything is dry. Lastly, place them in a ziplock bag or a mini container and keep them. Put the date on the preserved seeds to know when you stored them.

Tomato Seeds Last A Long Time

These preserved seeds will last you well into the next growing season. Additionally, based on this experiment, it is evident that the tomato seeds set for the next year are thriving faster than the new ones planted.

Wasted Time

All the hard work of having my tomato seeds first in egg cartons and then in little cups is a waste of time. Next year the seeds are going straight in the soil. You do not need to spend any extra time, any extra soil and cups etc. Although none of my soil is wasted because it all went into my garden beds and little planters outside, a lot of unnecessary steps can be removed. This is how we live and learn.

Try Again

Nevertheless, continue planting inside your home in the winter and spring next year. Doing this before taking them out by planting one seed in a pot and helping them grow strong before going outside is a head start. There is no need to use little cups or mini pods for planting tomatoes. These seeds grow large in side. They need space in order to grow better. Before we turn into the giant beings that we are, we were once just an itty bitty tiny little seed. Although we are a little more complicated.

How High Can Growing Tomatoes Grow?

Indeterminate Tomatoes Keep Growing

They will not grow tall enough or wide because the plants are way to close to one another. However, tomatoes will grow despite the limited space. For now, all tomato seeds that are flourishing will remain. There was no expectation doing this once again, thinking that anything is going to coming out. Yet it is a nice surprise to see that this last resort to plant tomato seeds is working out.

Summary - Growing Tomatoes

It just goes to show to not give up. You need to keep trying different methods, even if your first or fifth time ended up with nothing. I am grateful to doing this last trial, witnessing something pretty amazing. It is exciting to find out what transpires out of this and am happy to share this with you soon.

May this encourage you to grow your own tomatoes in your space and receive an abundance in return.
